I’m a little worried no one’s called the police to report a missing blogger!  It was a hard and busy week around here in Grassmeyerland and blogging just wasn’t an appropriate priority compared to everything else going on.

Last Friday, Tyler and I flew to Omaha for a friend’s wedding.  We were up early and as soon as we dropped out bags at the hotel and gussied up a bit, we headed straight to meet up with friends before the wedding.

We shared some wine and snacks, and then had Ashley’s dad take pictures of us in the backyard… Ala prom circa 2000. {And yes, Tyler and I wore the exact same clothes as the Birmingham wedding!}

It was while we were at the wedding that we received the sad and shocking news that a close friend and family member had unexpectedly passed away.  We finished our weekend in Nebraska, and were able to spend some nice time with Tyler’s parents and grandparents before we flew back to DC to turn around and fly to Savannah the next morning to be with family.

The events and stories of last week are not mine to share, but I will say that it is so hard to watch the people you love suffer and grieve.  I love my family and this loss leaves a long road ahead for them.  Please be praying that they would experience a peace that just doesn’t make sense under these circumstances; pray for the healing that can only come through Jesus…

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30

On my return to DC, I was thrown back into work and life as previously scheduled.  We had tickets to Wicked—my third time—which never fails to entertain.  We also had dinner with Miss Elizabeth Leasure, who was making a DC appearance for work.  She was kind enough to treat us to dinner at Ted’s Bulletin, along with our friends Jamie & Michael, and it was soooo good.  Four words: Peanut. Butter. Bacon. Burger. {Or is that three words…?}

Other happenings in our life…

- We’re finally giving Mad Men a shot.  Only three episodes in. Jury’s still out.

- Tyler signed up to run in a little race celebrating the Army’s birthday last week.  He thought it was just a little ceremonial 1 mile run.  I died when he came home that afternoon and shared that it was actually a 5k and it had to be run in formation. {Tyler works out and goes to the gym, but that man is not a runner…}

- We celebrated my friend Ashley’s 30th birthday with a night on the rooftop at Marvin.  The weather has been gorgeous lately—the quick rains are keeping things nice and cool, so it was great to be outside with friends.

- Our friends Sarah and Jeff were in town this weekend from Savannah and we were lucky enough to share some margaritas with them at Cantina Marina last night.  It was the perfect night to sit outside and enjoy the water and sunset.  We capped the night off walking through the empty halls of the Capitol where we busted a security guard for watching Oprah and may or may not have taken funny pictures in front of Anthony Weiner’s office…

This week is just a regular week, which I’m grateful for.  I need my regularly scheduled gym visits, Bible study night, and dinner at home.  Tyler heads to Israel this weekend for a work trip so we’ll be getting in lots of solo time this week I’m sure.

Now that we’re all caught up, blog life will be back to normal.  Thanks for reading this or even still checking the blog after my absence!

Happy Monday.  :)
