Happy Saturday!

It’s Saturday morning…

The house smells like coffee and bacon.

Saturday morning cartoons are playing downstairs, morning talk shows are playing up.

The basement floor is covered with sleeping bags, pillows, and plastic dinosaurs.  And there’s lots of giggling come from down there.

Because guess who’s here??

Our nephews {and their parents…} are here this weekend.  And despite the nasty weather we’re having a great time so far!  We enjoyed some fine mexican dining at Rio Grande last night, Kara’s favorite spot from when she lived here years ago.  We came home stuffed and tired, but all stayed up, huddled around the TV waiting to hear whether the government would shutdown.

{Tyler simultaneously worked his Blackberry, often beating the ticker tape of headlines on the latest announcements from Congress.  Once the deal was done, I had to do a fair share of my own bargaining to convince him not to go into the office.  I won.}

Today, we skipped the Cherry Blossom Parade, but are heading to the White House for their spring garden tours.  Tomorrow is church and grilling out with friends from the neighborhood because it’s supposed to be 70 degrees and sunny.  Kara and I are also going to attempt to spend an obnoxious amount of time decorating cupcakes from “What’s New Cupcake?” because what excuse do I ever have to make cupcakes that look like goldfish…or robots…apples?

And since the government is very much functioning, 1) we can afford to leave the house and 2) we can still go see the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum, the pandas at the zoo, and the flowers at the White House!

{Thank goodness—I didn’t know what we were going to do if there was a shutdown…}

I like our house this way… I look forward to more mornings filled with coffee, bacon, and Saturday morning cartoons.
