I don’t know what to call this post…

I just can’t bring myself to title another post “Catching Up” or “Weekend Update,” so there you go…

I’m a blogging failure this week because my wonderful college roommate, Heather, came to visit last week.  My work schedule is always front loaded and I stay pretty busy through Wednesday afternoons.  Heather flew in last Wednesday night and just left yesterday.  And that’s how it’s already next Tuesday!  I’m pointing no fingers—we were just having too much fun to blog…

I won’t lie, Heather and I live lives as different as two lives can be.  I love her but I was just as nervous as I was excited about her visit—I didn’t know if we could maintain conversations for five whole days or if we had enough in common beyond our common past.  And you know what, we DON’T have a ton in common when it comes to our day to day lives…but she is one of the few friends I have where we can pick up just where we left off.  There’s never any awkwardness, we’re both honest about our beliefs and opinions, and we just love each other…so it’s always ok.

Beyond the hours of girl talk, reminiscing, movie watching, wine drinking, brunching, and cooking lessons {we each had knowledge to impart, knowledge which I will share in a later post…}, we walked along the Potomac {pronounced Pot-o-mack} on one of the beautiful 70 degree days last week, we “dropped in” on a happy hour with my forty year-old mom friends {yes, I have those} and left three hours later… {Heather said, “THEY should be the DC Housewives.”}  We toured museums {the ever uplifting Holocaust and Native American museums}, shopped in Eastern Market, and pulled Tyler out of work long enough to share some margaritas and fish tacos. {I don’t know if anyone paid attention to this piece of news, but Mr. Grassmeyer was MIA most of the weekend and crawled home at sunrise on Saturday…}.

An impromptu visit to see his office led to a midnight tour through the Capitol and because Congress was pulling an all-nighter, his boss was even kind of enough to accompany us.  We sat in the gallery of the House chambers and listened to the debates and even snuck out onto the Speaker’s balcony which is hard to gain access to and offers one of the best views of the city.  {And then on the way home, we sung “How a Bill Becomes a Law” ala Schoolhouse Rock. “I’m just a bill…only a bill…”}

We were too busy pretending to be roommates again, I’m ashamed to say we really didn’t take any pictures… All I have to share is this grainy cell phone picture from the Capitol—that dome sure is pretty, huh?

So, excluding about a billion and a half other details, that was our weekend!  It was so fun.  Hey-Hey, we miss you already…
