Weekend Update

Monday, January 10, 2011

We just finished one of those great, relaxing yet productive weekends.  Aren’t you dying to know what we did??  I thought so.  So here’s how it all went down…

Friday…

- I was finally feeling a little better and thought perhaps I should go into work and make a little money.  Not my finest idea—I left work that afternoon feeling terrible.

- But I still went to see the Black Swan.  Definitely the movie for you if you dig lots of girl-on-girl action.  In reality, I have mixed opinions and a thousand questions. Director’s commentary please!

Saturday…

- We went and cleaned out Tyler’s old office—thank GOD we have an attic!  This man doesn’t throw away anything.  Anyone interested in Tyler’s old lease to his Capitol Hill apartment?  The one he lived in in 2005? Anyone?

- We claimed our free cupcakes from Crumb’s in Clarendon.  Hard to believe from the picture, but these cupcakes just don’t jive with me.  I’ve had the Cookies & Cream and the Half-Baked—I’ll just have to keep trying the 87 other flavors.  {And thank God they don’t publish the calories like they do in NYC!  How are you supposed to order a cupcake with “600” written next to it?}  Thanks to Cherish for the heads up on the deal—Friend of the Week!

- We were out running errands on Saturday when we heard of the terrible news in Tucson.  We were glued to the TV all weekend watching the updates and I just grow increasingly sad as I continue to watch.  The tragedy in and of itself was terrible, but it also occurred just a mile from my dad’s house, at a store where they shop all the time.  My little brothers are ten and six. This really could’ve happened to anyone… We continue to watch and pray for everyone in that community.

- That afternoon I also cheered on my Bulldawgs as they played UK in basketball.  I know I’m pretty clear about loving college football, but I grew up in a basketball house and I’ve decided to try and return to my roots and make my daddy proud.  Cheering against the Wildcats probably isn’t the way to do it, but oh well… Baby steps. {We’re finally ranked though—Go Dawgs!}

- That night, we rented “Catfish” and I was absolutely enamored.  Fascinated.  Check it out.

- I also took one of those knock-out naps that afternoon where I woke up drooling on Tyler’s shoulder.  It was awesome.

Sunday…

…I didn’t get out of my pajamas until 7pm.  It was one of those catch-up days and I spent hours doing some much needed stuff for work.  Writing patient goals, doing research, scouring the internet for new games and treatment ideas.  I was way overdue.

- Speaking of brothers—Casey, my original little brother, turned TEN yesterday.  TEN.  He used to look like this…

{Circa 2006}

And now he looks like this…

{He’s probably not quite as enamored with me and I am him, but I love this kid.  For our birthday this year, he made my brother David jello and gave him a note that said, “Dear David, Happy Birthday.  I made you jello.” Still makes me laugh.}

- And sadly, Todd Phillips, the teaching pastor for Frontline, where we attend church, preached his last sermon before moving to a new church in Texas.  He is awesome and I wish great things for he and his family.  I will surely miss hearing him speak.

Present Day…

- I’m feeling MUCH better and am back at work, though I still sound like a man and I’m pretty sure it’s scaring the kids.  Tonight we finished the pot of chili we’ve been feasting on all weekend while watching the National Championship game.  I want to root for the SEC but it’s hard to do when Nick Fairley keeps poking out eyeballs…

For now, I’m off to finish this game in bed!  I have a full day of work tomorrow and our office post-holiday holiday party is tomorrow night.  I have a feeling the incoming snow may have different plans though…

Goodnight!
