Just a Friday check in…
Friday, January 14, 2011First things first, thanks to AnnieLaurie and Laura for backing me up that The [Original] Parent Trap is one of the best movies ever made. I dated a guy once who, trying to be sweet, rented it for me but came back with the Lindsey Lohan version! Puh-lease. I didn’t have the heart to tell him it was the wrong one, but come on… Can we really compare Haley Mills to Lindsey Lohan?
I’m home early from a short day of work—I love Fridays. I go in early, have three adorable girls in a row and then I get the rest of the day to relax…
Today, I stopped at Border’s on my way home and picked up Steve Martin’s “An Object of Beauty.” I joined a book club recently {my first one!} and this is the current read. We meet next week though, so I got lots o’ reading to do! I’m pretty excited out about it—has anyone else out there read it? {Mom, I would have totally bought it on my Kindle but I figured I might need to take notes in it and junk…}
Tonight, we’re going to celebrate Tyler’s new job with some other friends who also just got a new job! We’re going to Aqua al 2 in Eastern Market and I cannot wait. The back story: when we were planning our trip to Italy this summer, we were told over and over that we must eat at Aqua al 2 in Florence. The day before we left for our trip, Tyler and I were celebrating my birthday with brunch in Eastern Market and we walked past a new restaurant… Aqua al 2! We were like “Say wha?” and stopped to read the menu—it turns out there are three of these restaurants in the world: Firenze, San Diego, and DC!
{The table in the background was where experienced our first taste of Aqua…}
Our dinner in Florence last summer was amazing. I’m not one of those people who remembers “the best ____ I ever had…” but Tyler and I agreed: our steaks at Aqua were hands down the best steaks we’d ever had. And that’s coming from Tyler—born and bred in Nebraska, Mr. Corn-fed Beef himself! Not to mention the cheese, the pasta, the wine… We’ve been meaning to go since we got back but just never found the time. But don’t worry, I remember exactly what I ordered and I’m ordering the same things tonight to ensure I make a fair comparison. And I’ve been eating salad aaaall day in preparation. I am so excited! I’ll let you know how it goes…
On tap for the rest of the weekend: I’m picking up a new kitchen table {more about that later!} and we’re celebrating a friend’s birthday tomorrow night. Other than that, we’re laying low and continuing to relish another slow weekend.
P to the S: I gave in and watched The Bachelor—I’m hooked. I think Emily, the single mom, is my favorite…
Happy Friday!
