A celebration is in order!

I haven’t been the world’s best blogger these days, but life + holidays has turned into scheduling insanity.  However, we were able to sneak away to New York this weekend to help my brother implement a grand proposal in Central Park.  And New York at Christmas?  You don’t have to ask me twice!

So here’s how it all went down…

My brother & his girlfriend, Christine, both live in St. Louis but Christine had a work engagement (no pun intended—yuk yuk yuk) all week in New Jersey and decided to make a weekend of it by heading into the city for the weekend.

Unbeknownst to Christine, a slew of family and friends were in on the surprise and were also in the city for the weekend.  Saturday afternoon, Andy and Christine went for a stroll through Central Park (FYI, it was freezing.) while Tyler and I scouted out a pre-determined spot…

The Bow Bridge

{This is the view from the spot where Andy will propose…}

I know the picture looks a little dreary, but I promise the view of the bridge and the skyline from their spot was spectacular. {This is me guarding the blanket and champagne until they arrived…}

I hadn’t yet met Christine, so I stood right there until they walked closer, completely unrecognized.  Then casually walked off as they came upon a “random” blanket….

“C’mon, let’s sit down…” “Umm…I think this belongs to a homeless person….” No sitting.

So they stand… Andy reaches into his pocket…

Gets down on one knee…

And they laugh.

{I think someone in there, a proposal was made.}

And they hugged. And she said yes.

And the ring was slipped on her finger.

From the time he was on one knee, everyone on the bridge realized what was happening and stopped to watch and take pictures. {Every girl around us was either squealing or sighing…}

At this point, everyone is cheering and applauding.

We gave them a moment to themselves before her new sister and brother-in-law ran over to introduce themselves.  They shared a glass of champagne and retold the story from what we’d seen from afar.

The happy couple!

And of course, the ring!

There are so many more details to this story… From the tumultuous journey T and I experienced on the way up that morning, to Tyler’s misunderstanding of a hotel key swap between Andy and I where our undercover op was nearly blown, to the table of friends who had flown in from all over the country waiting for us at the restaurant later that night.

My brother did an amazing job of planning a once-in-a-lifetime proposal in New York at Christmas.  And I was SO thrilled to finally meet Christine—my whole family had been raving about her and she lived up to the hype!  I am so happy for the both of them and was so happy that we were able to share in their excitement this weekend.  I can’t wait for a lifetime more of memories.

So here’s to Andy & Christine…
