Happy Birthday Granddaddy!

Thursday, October 08, 2009

Today is my Granddaddy's 80th birthday. 80-- WOW! He looks exactly the same as he did when I was ten and is still known to go tubing off the boat when he visits Savannah in the summer. He is also an AVID Tennessee Vols fan.

Exhibit A: He hired a spy to sneak into my wedding reception and have "Rocky Top" played on the dance floor... He then rejoiced in his trickeration by removing his tuxedo jacket, slinging it overhead and dancing... (Yes, my friends still talk about it.)

This means that every October we inevitably have an interesting exchange, each of us talking lots of game about our respective teams (Go Dawgs!). However, I received a plea from him last night requesting that I take it easy on his beloved team, especially on my blog. (I guess it would be heart breaking enough to have your team lose and THEN have to go read about it on your favorite granddaughter's blog on Monday...)

For the record, the last time I went to see the Dawgs play the Vols at home the Vols were the victors. I went to have lunch with my grandparents before heading home and this is what I was met with:

Tennessee car flags duct taped to the front porch...

BUT...because it's his big 8-0 AND I'm an awesome granddaughter, my lips are sealed (but my magic red socks are donned!).

And yes, G'daddy... I DO remember the tree house...the beach trips (and the pre-beach trips to Shoney's)...Cats (my life wouldn't be complete if I didn't know every last word to "Mr. Mistoffelees"). I also remember Stone Mountain lazer shows, Athens Pizza, and Lake Lanier Waterpark. You're a great carpenter, an awesome seashell finder, and an even better granddad. I love you, miss you, and am sorry I wasn't there to help celebrate!

Until next time...

Go Dawgs.
