Weekend Update

Sunday, August 02, 2009

Sadly (but also happily), it is my last week in Colorado. So, the roomies and I have been trying to squeeze in as much Colorado stuff as possible in these last seven days. "Colorado stuff" ranges from various tourists spots, eating at local restaurants, cooking an assortment of foods, and watching a variety of movies my romantic-comedy-deprived sister has yet to see...

So check out what we did this weekend!

Randy and I got up early on Saturday morning and ran the "Run for Rwanda" 5k. We ran through Cottonwood Creek Park while a group a runners simultaneously ran in Rwanda-- proceeds went to building a health clinic there. The race was also opened with a prayer, which I thought was neat. I've been planning on running a half-marathon over Labor Day, but just this little 5k kicked my butt! I'm hoping it was the altitude...

That night, not only did I introduce Becky and Randy to the wonders of "Dump Cake" (Readers, if you don't know what this is, TELL ME. I will share (and change your life.)), but I also made my first ever loaf of homemade bread (under the supervision of my big sis). Nary a bread machine in sight! Eat your heart out Martha...

Here are a few pictures of Becky and Randy enjoying my creation. (These picture are completely candid and in NO WAY staged-- I simply captured the purity of their emotions... :) )

Then today we headed west to check out St. Elmo, a ghost town a few hours away that I've had multiple patients recommend to me. We stopped in Buena Vista where we enjoyed the delicacies of K's, a tiny fast food joint worthy of a feature by Guy Fieri on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives."

We had to wait in line for about 45 minutes for our food, but I think it was worth it.

One funny thing about K's is when you place your order, you're given the name of a celebrity, which they call when your food is ready. So we dined in the presence of Morgan Freeman, Robert DeNiro, Babe Ruth, Susan Sarandon, Raquelle Welsh...just to name a few. Check us out:

Drew Berrymore and the Divine Miss M.

We then drove to St. Elmo, where I took a lot of pictures... Enjoy!

We had a fun weekend, but I am TIRED. Becky and I are headed to Denver tomorrow to do a little bit of shopping. Also on our list? A visit to Big Fat Cupcake. Oh yes. Expect pictures.
